Viv will facilitate a creative discussion exploring the complexity of women’s lives as we juggle the many flavours and textures of our dreams and reality.  The Whole Cake a decade after it began… 

The whole cake is coming back. The plans I had at its inception, for touring and development, have not eventuated as the whole cake of life has been big and touring the original show was one bite of one slice of one cake that got left on the plate for later……. And now it is later. 10 years later.

It’s been an interesting 10 years. My children have grown up. We have moved cities. A pandemic happened and a whole new career pathway. As I approached the show thinking I could remount it with a few minor adjustments it quickly became apparent that there was more here. For a start my body is 10 years, and a whole new autoimmune condition, different. Can I even perform the same moves? Do I resonate with the same cakes of life? Can I just perform my past or do I acknowledge my present?

As I struggled through the first few rehearsals it became clear, the creative process is amazing for that. I need to perform ‘the now’ to keep the show as ‘real life’ as it was 10 years ago. Having said that, ‘the now’ includes ‘the then’. I was there. It still rests in my body/mind. It's still relevant, but ‘the now’ is interesting too, and what a shame to miss the opportunity to do what I love the most and be self-reflexively present in my current creative context.
